Forever A Family

Our adoption journey began about 3 ½ years ago.  We waited 9 months for our first foster child; a time of waiting God used to prepare and grow us in areas that we needed to enable us to better care for His hurting children.  The wait was worth it! A precious little 6 year old girl arrived at our home and although she was quite challenging, she was perfect for our family. She only stayed with us 9 months but God again birthed something in us during that time and used her in a very special way to grow our passion for traumatized children and strengthen our trust in the Lord.  Loving children and then letting them go is one of the hardest things we’ve had to do, but we reminded each other that this is what we were called to do and pressed on.  Although we were adoption minded God again brought another foster child into our life, after 11 months she also returned home.

We loved fostering and are so thankful to have had the privilege of parenting our 2 sweet girls. They will always be a part of us. We then felt God was leading us to close our home for fostering and wait for our forever children.  One thing we learned as we waited is that, the “no’s” (not being selected for some children) were just as much a part of the journey as the “yes’s”.  Trusting is not easy when dealing with matters of the heart.  God’s timing is always perfect, there are no accidents…it all goes through HIS hand.

On my (Cheryl) birthday, January 3rd , 2012, we were sent a picture asking us if we wanted to be the parents to 3 beautiful children who had been waiting to be adopted.  During the journey we wondered how we would know our children.  At first we thought we just wanted basic children – who doesn’t?!  But after such a long wait and loving 2 challenging foster children God brought us to the place of wanting what He wanted for our life.  He was wanting us to take the step of FAITH and trust Him even when everything on paper about these children read “FEAR”…and trust us, there was much to fear.  The past 6 months since we signed our placement papers have been more challenging then we could have ever imagined. There were days we didn’t think we were going to make it.  But God kept us faithful and pressed us on to the finish line. All of us are so excited to join officially as a family October 17th!!  We could not imagine life without our precious children and look forward to a bright future knowing that He will continue to show us the way.  Our HOPE is in HIS Word.  God helped us endure in the darkness by reminding us what He revealed in the Light.
